In it one feels immediately the artists’ shadow.” In his best prints, Tertre uses color to express mood, achieving a subdued, reflective ambiance via a palate of green and burn-orange colors. Tertre enhances this quiet mood by placing the stark, leafless profile of the tree in the foreground: the tree dominates the composition and forms a striking contrast to the warm cluster of farmhouses and evergreens in the back. A loving study of the French countryside. The original lithographs created by Tertre are on permanent exhibition at Galleria in Paris and Provence. Born in 1927 in Paris, Tertre studied at the College des Arts Appliques of the city of Paris. He has received commissions to create mosaics and tapestry from numerous school, churches and state organizations.
