"AUTUMN LANDSCAPE" -Jean-Pierre Tertre -Lithograph -1970's -Signed and numbered -139/275

$450.00

AUTUMN LANDSCAPE by Jean-Pierre Tertre is a captivating lithograph from the 1970s, signed and numbered 139/275, measuring a thoughtful 20x26 inches. After being tucked away for over 50 years in a retired Manhattan gallery, this piece emerges as a splendid tribute to the charm of the French countryside. Like many of the great twentieth century artists before him -Miro, Picasso, Matisse- Parisian-born Jean-Pierre Tertre is a multi-faceted talent who groks easily in a variety of artistic media -watercolor, mosaic, ceramic, tapestry design and printmaking. But it is as a lithographer that Tertre has achieved  his widest recognition. “Yet the media”, he says “I like and respect most is original etching and lithography.” Tertre states strongly his feeling about that media. “Original etching and lithograph is a technique that can’t lie, it does not allow an incomplete knowledge as in painting. In it one feels immediately the artists’ shadow.” In his best prints, Tertre uses color to express mood, achieving a subdued, reflective ambiance via a palate of green and burn-orange colors. Tertre enhances this quiet mood by placing the stark, leafless profile of the tree in the foreground: the tree dominates the composition and forms a striking contrast to the warm cluster of farmhouses and evergreens in the back. A loving study of the French countryside. The original lithographs created by Tertre are on permanent exhibition at Galleria in Paris and Provence. He has done numerous portfolios of multiple original to illustrate the works of famous writers., i.e. 13 original wood engravings for the Legend de Saint Julien by Gustav Flaubert.

Born in 1927 in Paris, Tertre studied at the College des Arts Appliques of the city of Paris. He has received commissions to create mosaics and tapestry from numerous school, churches and state organizations.
